Dermal Fillers

Beauty has many faces and the things that make you individual are the same things that make you beautiful. Nurse Naomi Aesthetics offers a holistic approach to achieving natural-looking results that work in harmony with your uniqueness.

As our face ages, it’s easy to focus on visible signs such as wrinkles. However, the signs of ageing are often the result of changes to the deeper layers of the face. Over time, the shape and contour of the face changes. Facial volume is gradually lost and the skin becomes thinner, making the effects of gravity more apparent.

Dermal fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid gels that restore volume to areas of the face. They are ‘water-loving’ and attract and hold water to assist with skin hydration. The filler is placed below the skin’s surface to provide youthful contours and smoother skin.

Made of water-loving gels, they can replace lost volume, contour your face, soften fine lines or define and plump your lips.

How quickly will I see my Dermal Filler results?

Dermal fillers produce instant results. A typical procedure takes around 30 minutes.

How long will my Dermal Filler results last?

The effects of dermal filler can last anywhere between 9 and 18 months, depending on what product has been used and to which area of the face.

Is there any downtime with Dermal Fillers?

There is very little downtime with dermal filler injections. The average treatment session lasts around 30 minutes and you can return to your day-to-day activities straight away. Dermal filler also contains local anaesthetic, which can reduce discomfort during injection.

Dermal Fillers feel like a slight pinch, and you may experience slight pressure or a ‘stinging’ sensation as the product is being injected. It does depend on your tolerance and on the treatment area. Lips are generally the most sensitive area, so I will apply a numbing cream to to the area prior to injecting.

Each unique cosmetic injectable treatment has its own possible risks and side effects, which will be discussed in detail with you at your appointment.

Generally speaking, the majority of cosmetic injections can cause mild swelling, mild pain discomfort, bruising and tenderness, but can easily be treated with measures such as a cool compress and light pain relief. The majority of patients return to work immediately following treatments.

There are circumstances where more serious side effects can occur. I will discuss your cosmetic and medical history and explain all of the potential risks before beginning your treatment. I’m always contactable if you have any concerns with your treatment.

Very little preparation is required on the part of the patient. In order to reduce the risk of bruising, the use of blood thinning agents such as anti-inflammatory medications and fish oils can be ceased in the week leading up to your treatment, however we advise you to consult with your GP before ceasing any medications. Avoid any large intakes of alcohol for 24 hours as this increases the risk of bruising.

If you have a managed illness, I advise you also discuss the use of injectables with your doctor/specialist. If for any reason we need to delay or not proceed with your treatment, you will not be charged for the consultation.

Each unique cosmetic injectable treatment has its own aftercare requirements, which will be discussed in detail with you at your appointment. I recommend the following post-care regimen:

  • Keep injection sites clean
  • Don’t touch or rub the injected area
  • Avoid lying flat for at least 4 hours post treatment
  • Use gentle facial cleansers and creams while your skin is recovering
  • Avoid sun exposure and heat treatments such as saunas and hot tubs for 24-48 hours
  • Avoid the consumption of alcohol and strenuous physical activity for 24-48 hours
  • A cool compress may help to reduce pain and swelling
  • No kissing or smoking for 24 hours following lip fillers

Cosmetic injectable treatments are unsuitable for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive. Some treatments may also be unsuitable for certain skin types and people suffering from certain medical conditions. It is important to be honest when discussing your medical history, so I can best determine your suitability and ensure your safety for treatment. A thorough consultation will be undertaken before any treatment.

Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are two of the most commonly performed cosmetic treatments in the world. While every patient is different and may experience possible side effects, these treatments are generally require very little recovery time, making them popular ‘lunchtime procedures’. It is possible that some side effects may occur. These will be discussed with you thoroughly at your appointment.
